Superfund Sites

IMPORTANT ISSUES

We need to work with government agencies and come to agreements to mitigate hazardous waste exposure as soon as practical. Delays in commencing the work continue to expose us to the hazards. We also need to be aware that government funding can be reduced or eliminated due to budget and political shifts.

Upon completion of the cleanup, programs should have already been established and in place to monitor and maintain proper standards.

Reducing wildfire risks

Creating green spaces for recreation and community gatherings that are designed and maintained for improved fire prevention and better enjoyment of the people.

Improving Water Quality

Insuring quality drinking water through testing and published results

Helping well owners to test their water and informing on how to improve the quality of their wells

Exploring ways to assist property owners with cost-effective testing

There is an immediate need to create additional evacuation routes out of remote areas such as the Blue Hills. Funding is in place to at least start the construction of the evacuation routes but have not been utilized.

Regular testing around town to insure results remain within standards

The town should be an example for mitigation and cleanup of town-owned parcels. Dewey-Humboldt needs to establish a closer partnership with wildfire protection organizations such as Firewise, along with government organizations that control parcels within and bordering the town.

Establish a private well testing program
